Gateway 3DS Flash Card
Posted by GW3DS Team | Filed under 3ds roms, play backups
The Gateway 3DS is the first and as such the best Nintendo 3DS rom flash card. With it you can play backup copies of 3DS roms from a microSD card. Gateway 3DS works as an adapter between the microSD / microSDHC card and the Nintendo console. All the features of the original game are preserved and the save games get stored on the full sized SD card as .sav files. When you want to swap the games you have to use your computer to replace the rom on the existing micro SD card or take another microSD card with the game on it. Pick whichever way you like - more easy or low cost.

Gateway 3DS: the first flashcard for Nintendo 3DS roms! |
The Gateway 3DS is the first Nintendo 3DS / N3DS XL flash card initiated since the beginning of the 3D century. It has caused the shock when the GW3DS team let the market know for the first time that they have hacked the 3DS by showing a video evidence of their successful. Since then, it has had much updates on the progress made, with the exception of the functionality of the video recorded. But now people have started receiving the shipments of final product and we can say that Gateway 3DS works and it can play game copies of the 3DS roms.
Q: Is the Save Game function in games working? Where are the games saved on the GW card? Do I lose my progress if I play another rom on the Gateway card?
A: Saving inside the game works as it normally would. The only thing that you have to be careful with is not to exit the game back to HOME menu before turning off the 3DS. This gives the Gateway card the time to backup the save game file .sav to the SD card. When exiting the game click on the [HOME] -> [x Close] and push (A) button to confirm that you want to exit and the save data will be safely saved. Each 3DS ROM will have a separate SAV file on the SD card and the next time you play that game the Gateway3DS card will check the SD card to see if you already have a save game and if yes – it will be loaded and you would not lose any progress in the game. Sav files can also be easily copied to the PC for backup purposes.
Q: Do I have to run the GW_INSTALL.nds from the Blue card every time I turn the 3DS on/off?
A: No – You need to run Gateway installer App (GW_INSTALL.nds) only once. You will have to repeat the installation only if you happen to use the DS Mode.
3DS Mode – they default mode in which you run original 3DS carts and games downloaded from Nintendo eShop
DS Mode – 3DS enters this mode to play DS cartridges. You can think of it as DS Emulator inside of 3DS, but it is more like a virtualization on PC. In DS mode most 3DS specific features are disabled, display is either stretched or the game is shown with a black border frame and the CPU is underclocked to fit NDS games.
Gateway Mode – Nintendo 3DS with the GW3DS hack installed via the Gateway3DS Blue card and the hack activated by going into Settings->Other Settings->Profile->Nintendo DS Profile. This mode is not permanent and the console can be returned to the normal “unchecked” state by entering the DS Mode.
SD card (also SDHC) – a full sized Secure Digital or SDHC card that plugs into slot marked SD CARD on the left side of your 3DS console.
microSD card (also microSDXC) – these are the smaller micro sized SD cards that are used for storing nds and 3ds roms in the Gateway 3DS Blue and Red cartridges. Up to 2GB they are called microSD cards, and all cards 4GB to 32GB are officially called microSDHC where the HC stands for High Capacity. Cards above 32GB in size are called microSDXC – eXtended Capacity.
